The Rolph Tudor was made in 1945, it has the 25 jewel 2784 ETA movement. At the time it was unusual, Rolex traditionally used more jewels in the watches than Tudor. This was a popular movement and probably one of the best of its time.
Gordan J Rolph was a Horologist and probably one of the best in the country. he also worked on some of the prototypes of 'Ball' watches. In 1946-46 he made watches for Hamilton, including the rare 19 Jewel US-Made 982 Manual-Wind Movement. He had his name painted on many of the watches he sold out of his San Francisco store in the 1940's and 50's.
He moved back to England in 1963. His two sons continued in watch making. His grandson Steven Rolph is also a Horologist, he works mostly on clocks and is probably the UK's most experienced and qualified horologists.

During the 1930s and 1940s, when Rolex still had an agreement with Gruen not to sell Aegler-based watches in North America, the Rolex Watch Company was doing some interesting branding experiments in Canada. All watches sold in Canada during this period had a "Rolex Caliber 59" movement, which is actually just a finished Fontainemelon FHF30 movement.
The watches were almost all 30-32 mm, and although there was only a handful of references (3478 and 3121f were the most common, along with 3136, 3351f, etc.) there were countless names used.
Brands used included Rolex, Tudor, Neptune, Aqua/Solar Aqua/Lund & Blockley Aqua and Oyster.
